Directions - 1-3 capsules at the start of each meal. Betaine HCl may help improve the digestion and absorption of dietary protein and minerals. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach (HCl) converts pepsinogen to pepsin, an enzyme that breaks proteins down and renders them more easily absorbed. As we age, hydrochloric secretion may be reduced, which can result in decreased levels of pepsin. With less than optimal pepsin levels digestion is impaired. Betaine hydrochloride is used as a supplemental source of hydrochloric acid, which used by the stomach to produce pepsin.
